Paula Tunney D.C.R (D) D.M.L trained as a radiographer in London´s Central Middlesex Hospital, qualifying in 1984. She then worked in St. Vincent´s Hospital, Dublin, from 1984 -1998, specialising in abdominal and vascular ultrasound, being conferred with the Diploma in Medical Ultrasound (DMU) in 1992. In 1998 Paula joined forces with an obstetrician and gynaecologist to open their private practice at the Orwell Medical Clinic in Rathgar.   Separately, Paula set up Baby Scan Ltd. in 2006.

 

In 2002, The Orwell Clinic was the first clinic in Ireland to offer the cutting edge 3D4D scan to pregnant mums. By 2006, demand for self referred pregnancy scans was so high that Paula Tunney founded BabyScan Maternity Ultrasound in the Plaza Clinic, Swords. In response to increased pressure in the maternity hospitals, and demand from GP´s and patients alike, the early pregnancy scan service was introduced, with gender scans,  reassurance scans and 3D4D scans thereafter. In 2008, BabyScan started to expand nationwide, with its first non-Dublin clinic opening in Ballincollig, Co. Cork. Today, Paula Tunney is BabyScan´s clinical specialist, based in the Orwell Clinic, Rathgar, and takes an active role in sonographer education and development, supervising professional development as part of ongoing training of sonographers.
